19th – 31st August 2016 – Awareness raising programme on ‘Improved governance for effective timber monitoring and traceability of Shorea robusta in Nepal’ conducted for the CFUGs and LFGs of Rupandehi and Kapilvastu districts. The overall objective of the workshop is to raise awareness on the pre-selected executives and members of the concerned Forest Users’ Groups (FUGs) about the development and implementation of a control system for Shorea robusta production and trade. Total of 281 participants benefitted from 8 trainings conducted at different dates.
The participants were able to learn concept, definition, elements, institutional structure of GG, indicators of GG elements, tools of GG, rights established due to GG, causes of poor governance and provision in CF guideline/directives related to GG including present gaps. There was also discussion on the issues of logging practices, legal timber and legality verification. Leadership role and responsibility of CFUGs were widely explained.
